Screen Capture for Authoring Language Materials

Here's an example of a video made using simple tools.

Tools

Here are some tools that can be used to create video-based learning materials:

Procedures

This is one procedure for creating a simple instructional video:

  1. Decide on a theme or topic for your video (e.g. vocabulary items, labelling objects, describing scenes);
  2. Collect the images you need for this (e.g. a picture of a room; pictures of animals etc.).
  3. Create your Notebook sequence of items.
  4. Plan and rehearse the narrative of your presentation (make notes on paper to help you remember your narrative).
  5. Go to Screencast-O-Matic.com and size the video capture frame to fit your presentation window.
  6. Test your microphone.
  7. When you're ready, start your recording.
  8. When you're finished, play your recording back - redo the recording if you need to.
  9. When you're happy with your video, export it to your computer for safe keeping.
  10. Upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo.
  11. Finally, embed your video into your website using the 'embed' code provided by your video hosting site.
